What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a permanent replacement for a missing tooth root — a small titanium post that fuses with your jawbone to provide a stable foundation for a natural-looking ceramic crown.

Unlike bridges or dentures that rest on top of your gums, dental implants become part of your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. This biological fusion creates a foundation as strong as your natural tooth root — stimulating bone growth, preserving facial structure, and giving you back full chewing function.

Each implant consists of three parts: the titanium post that replaces the root, the abutment that connects the post to the crown, and the custom ceramic crown that looks, feels, and functions exactly like a natural tooth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are the most advanced, long-lasting solution for missing teeth — offering benefits that go far beyond appearance.

Permanent Solution

Unlike bridges that last 5–10 years or dentures that need replacement, implants are designed to last a lifetime with proper care.

Preserves Bone Health

The titanium post stimulates your jawbone just like a natural root, preventing the bone loss that occurs when teeth are missing.

Natural Look & Feel

Custom-crafted ceramic crowns are matched to your natural tooth shade, shape, and translucency — completely undetectable.

Protects Adjacent Teeth

Unlike bridges that require grinding down healthy neighboring teeth, implants stand alone — preserving your natural tooth structure.

Full Chewing Function

Restore over 90% of your original chewing power. Eat steak, apples, corn on the cob — anything you love — with complete confidence.

Prevents Shifting

When a tooth is missing, surrounding teeth drift into the gap. Implants maintain proper alignment and prevent bite problems.

The Implant Process

From your first consultation to your final reveal, here is what to expect when you choose dental implants at Waikiki Dental.

Dr. Narodovich performs a thorough evaluation including 3D CBCT cone-beam CT imaging to assess your jawbone density, sinus position, and nerve pathways. We discuss your goals, review your medical history, and create a customized treatment plan. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your timeline, cost, and what to expect at every stage.
Using your digital scan data, we design your implant placement with surgical precision — often planning the entire case with computer-guided technology. If you need a bone graft or sinus lift to build up adequate bone support, this is typically performed 3–6 months before implant placement. We'll coordinate every detail for a seamless experience.
On the day of surgery, you'll be comfortably sedated with IV sedation — you'll feel no pain and likely remember very little of the procedure. Dr. Narodovich makes a small incision in the gum, precisely drills a pilot hole using the digital guide, and places the titanium implant post into your jawbone. The gum is sutured closed and the healing process begins. The entire procedure typically takes 60–90 minutes per implant.
Over the next 3–6 months, your jawbone grows around the titanium post in a process called osseointegration. This creates a permanent bond as strong as your natural tooth root. During this time you can eat a normal diet with caution. A temporary crown or bridge may be placed so you never go without a tooth. We'll monitor your progress with periodic checkups.
Once the implant is fully integrated, we uncover the implant and attach a small connector piece called an abutment. Digital impressions are taken and your custom ceramic crown is meticulously crafted to match your natural teeth in color, shape, and bite. With our CEREC same-day technology, the crown can often be milled right in our office. The crown is then securely screwed or cemented onto the abutment for a flawless finish.
Your implant is now fully functional and completely natural-looking. Brush and floss normally — with proper care, your implant will serve you for decades. Dr. Narodovich will schedule regular follow-up visits to ensure your implant stays healthy. Welcome back to eating, smiling, and laughing with total confidence.

IV Sedation for Anxiety-Free Implants

We understand that the thought of dental surgery can be intimidating. Our IV sedation option transforms the experience into one of total relaxation.

Deep Relaxation
IV sedation induces a profound state of calm. You remain conscious and responsive but feel completely detached from the procedure — many patients remember nothing at all.
No Pain or Memory
With IV sedation combined with local anesthesia, you feel zero discomfort during the procedure. Most patients describe waking up as if no time passed at all.
Board-Certified Safety
Dr. Narodovich is IV sedation certified and monitors your vitals throughout the procedure. Our team follows strict safety protocols for worry-free care.

Same-Day Dental Implants

Thanks to our advanced digital workflow, many patients can have their implant placed and restored in a single appointment.

Using our 3D CBCT scanner and digital implant planning software, Dr. Narodovich maps out the exact position, angle, and depth of your implant before the procedure even begins. A surgical guide is created to ensure precision placement. In select cases, a temporary crown or bridge can be fabricated the same day using our CEREC milling technology.

Same-day implants mean you walk into our office missing a tooth and walk out with a fully restored smile — no temporary partials, no second surgery, no waiting months.

Dental Implants — Your Questions Answered

The cost varies based on the number of implants, any needed bone grafting, and the type of restoration. A single implant typically ranges from $3,000 to $5,000. We accept most major dental insurance plans and offer flexible financing through CareCredit. During your consultation, we provide a complete, transparent treatment plan with all costs itemized.
Most patients report minimal discomfort. The area is completely numbed with local anesthesia, and with IV sedation you'll be deeply relaxed throughout. Post-operative soreness is typically mild and easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Most patients return to normal activities within 1–2 days.
With good oral hygiene and regular dental checkups, dental implants can last 20 years to a lifetime. The titanium post fuses permanently with your jawbone. The ceramic crown may need replacement after 10–15 years due to normal wear. This makes implants the most cost-effective long-term tooth replacement option available.
Initial healing from surgery takes 7–10 days. Most patients return to work within 48 hours. The full osseointegration process — where the bone fuses to the implant — takes 3–6 months. During this time, you can eat normally with some care. We provide detailed post-operative instructions to ensure smooth, comfortable healing.
Yes, in many cases. Using our 3D CBCT scanner and digital planning software, we can place your implant and attach a temporary crown in a single appointment. Not every patient qualifies — we evaluate bone quality, implant location, and other factors during your consultation to determine if same-day implants are right for you.
Most healthy adults with adequate jawbone are candidates. If you've experienced bone loss, advanced techniques like bone grafting and sinus lifts can often make implants possible. Even patients who have worn dentures for years are often excellent candidates. A comprehensive evaluation with 3D imaging will determine the best approach for your unique situation.
